This bold Pounamu Toki is a taonga of mana, carved and bound by 15-year-old Māori artist Hemi, whose natural talent continues to flourish under the guidance of tohunga and kaiako who recognise his potential.
Crafted from dark, richly toned pounamu, this piece carries a deep wairua (spirit) — the kind that speaks to quiet leadership, inner resolve, and ancestral connection. Its elongated form and solid weight reflect strength and groundedness, while the clean, expertly bound muka-style wrapping is testament to Hemi’s growing skill and care in every detail.
Each toki is traditionally a symbol of toa (strength), workmanship, and discipline — carried by rangatira (leaders) and tohunga alike.
