Rāranga Weaving Workshops

Raranga Weaving Workshops with Whakapakari Ora + Kahu Collective

Nau mai, haere mai ki te ao o te raranga.
Step into the world of traditional Māori weaving through our Raranga Workshops—where healing, creativity, and cultural reconnection are woven together with aroha.

Whakapakari Ora is proud to collaborate with Kahu Collective, a kaupapa-led weaving and arts-based rōpū dedicated to the reclamation and revitalisation of te ao Māori through mahi toi (creative practice). Together, we offer immersive, hands-on raranga experiences guided by skilled kairaranga (weavers) and grounded in tikanga, mātauranga Māori, and wānanga-style learning.

🌿 What You'll Learn

  • How to harvest, prepare, and respect harakeke (flax)
  • Techniques for weaving items such as kono, flowers, or small kete
  • The whakapapa and wairua of raranga as a healing and ancestral practice
  • Rituals, karakia, and values that protect and uplift this mahi

Whether you are a first-time weaver or returning to the kaupapa, these workshops offer a sacred space to reconnect—to whenua, to whānau, and to your own creativity.

🧡 Healing Through Weaving

For us, raranga is not just an art form—it is a rongoā. Each strand, each plait, is part of a story that restores balance, encourages mindfulness, and honours whakapapa. Join us in this sacred mahi toi and experience the healing that comes from weaving together people, place, and purpose.

Whakapakari Ora invites you to walk with us on a journey of reconnection, healing and mātauranga Māori.

Our wānanga and events are open to the public and grounded in kaupapa Māori values of manaakitanga, wairuatanga, and kaitiakitanga. These spaces are created to uplift community wellbeing, share traditional knowledge, and strengthen our connection to te taiao (the natural world).

We offer a range of experiences throughout the motu, including:

  • 🌿 Rongoā Workshops – hands-on learning in mirimiri, rongoā rākau (native plant medicine), and traditional healing practices
  • 🚶♀️ Hīkoi Series – guided nature walks exploring rākau Māori, pūrākau (storytelling), and spiritual grounding
  • 🧶 Weaving Workshops – collaborative raranga experiences delivered with our hoa mahi at Kahu Collective, weaving both fibres and community
  • 🧘♀️ Guided Meditations & Wairua Practices – calming sessions to align wairua and hinengaro, grounded in maramataka and te taiao
  • 🩺 Koha-Based Community Clinics – accessible mirimiri and holistic rongoā services offered with aroha

Our events align with the maramataka (Māori lunar calendar), creating opportunities to attune with the natural rhythms of the moon and environment.
