Mirimiri – Traditional Māori Touch Therapy for Holistic Well-Being

Mirimiri – Traditional Māori Touch Therapy for Holistic Well-Being

Mirimiri is a traditional Rongoā Māori practice of therapeutic touch, deeply rooted in cultural values and ancestral wisdom. Reflecting the principles of manaakitanga (care and hospitality) and whanaungatanga (building relationships), mirimiri creates a nurturing environment to support overall well-being.

For Wāhine (Women) and Whare Tangata (Reproductive Health)

Mirimiri supports wāhine navigating the unique challenges of their whare tangata (reproductive system), such as their ikura (menstrual cycles), PCOS, endometriosis, and menopause. Through gentle touch, mirimiri:

  • Encourages the flow of mauri (life force energy).
  • Promotes emotional balance and relaxation.
  • Offers support for physical discomfort associated with these experiences.

For Māmā, Tamariki, and Hapū Māmā

Mirimiri also provides care for māmā (mothers), tamariki (children), and hapū māmā (pregnant mothers), promoting well-being and resilience at different stages of life:

  • For Rangatahi (Teens): Supports self-awareness and confidence during adolescence.
  • For Hapū Māmā: Promotes relaxation and vitality during pregnancy.
  • For Māmā and Tamariki: Offers a calming and grounding experience to navigate the challenges of motherhood.

Holistic Practice for Mind, Body, and Spirit

Mirimiri is more than physical touch—it is a holistic practice that honours the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. Through its gentle and therapeutic approach, it fosters a sense of connection, empowerment, and overall well-being for wāhine and their whānau (family).

Note on Complementary Practices

Mirimiri is a complementary therapy that supports overall well-being. It is not a substitute for medical care or treatment. We encourage clients to consult their healthcare provider for any medical conditions or concerns.

Whakapakari Ora invites you to walk with us on a journey of reconnection, healing and mātauranga Māori.

Our wānanga and events are open to the public and grounded in kaupapa Māori values of manaakitanga, wairuatanga, and kaitiakitanga. These spaces are created to uplift community wellbeing, share traditional knowledge, and strengthen our connection to te taiao (the natural world).

  • 🌿 Rongoā Workshops – hands-on learning in mirimiri, rongoā rākau (native plant medicine), and traditional healing practices
  • 🚶♀️ Hīkoi Series – guided nature walks exploring rākau Māori, pūrākau (storytelling), and spiritual grounding
  • 🧶 Weaving Workshops – collaborative raranga experiences delivered with our hoa mahi at Kahu Collective, weaving both fibres and community
  • 🧘♀️ Guided Meditations & Wairua Practices – calming sessions to align wairua and hinengaro, grounded in maramataka and te taiao
  • 🩺 Koha-Based Community Clinics – accessible mirimiri and holistic rongoā services offered with aroha
