This Niho Taniwha (tooth of the taniwha) pendant is a striking symbol of protection, power, and spiritual guardianship. Carved from deep-toned Aroha stone, this taonga represents strength rooted in compassion — a balance of mana (prestige) and aroha (love).
Handcrafted by 15-year-old Māori artist Hemi, this pendant honours the mythical taniwha — powerful beings of the water and whenua who guard sacred spaces and people. The sharp-edged form mirrors the niho (tooth), while its compact size and textured binding reflect thoughtful craftsmanship and reverence for the stone’s wairua (spirit).
