A celebration of colour, connection, and cultural pride.
Kura Kura Kai Tahu is a breathtaking handwoven kahu piu created by Kairaranga Corabelle Summerton, honouring the spirit of Uenuku — atua of rainbows, transformation, and diversity.
Woven from muka harakeke using traditional techniques, this piece embodies the shifting spectrum of the rainbow, symbolising the beauty of difference and unity within te ao Māori. The vibrant hues flow seamlessly from deep ocean blues to golden yellows and fiery reds, representing the journey of light, life, and renewal.
Adorned with karoro (seagull) feathers, it carries the essence of the coastal winds — the messengers between realms, guiding the wearer toward clarity, pride, and connection.
Each strand has been prepared, dyed, and woven by hand — a process of deep wairua, aroha, and intention.
This is not just a garment, but a taonga: a living expression of whakapapa, identity, and celebration.
