This handcrafted toki (adze) is carved from stunning Aroha stone, named for the deep warmth and affection it carries — a taonga (treasure) that speaks to both strength and connection.

Bound by 15-year-old artist Hemi, this piece reflects his dedication to both traditional technique and natural form. Each curve, line, and cord is shaped with intention and respect for the kaupapa of taonga tuku iho (treasures passed down).

The stone features a unique marbled texture with rich, earthy tones and natural flecks — a reminder of its journey from te taiao (the natural world) to your hands. The binding is done by Hemi himself, symbolising manaaki (care), protection, and unity.
