This handcrafted Niho Taniwha is carved from beautiful Takaka Marble, a stone renowned for its rich history, natural beauty, and deep connection to Te Waipounamu. Each taonga carries its own unique patterns and character, reflecting the ancient whakapapa of the stone and the journey it has taken through time.

Hand-carved by 16-year-old carver Hemi Smiler Smith, this piece embodies patience, dedication, and respect for both the stone and the traditions of Māori carving. Every stage of the process is completed with intention, from the first cut to the final polish, ensuring the mana and natural beauty of the stone are honoured throughout its transformation.

The Niho Taniwha design symbolises strength, protection, leadership, and resilience. Inspired by the powerful guardians of Māori tradition, it serves as a reminder to stand strong in the face of challenges while remaining connected to your whakapapa and values.

The binding is completed by Hemi himself, representing the connection between the stone, the carver, and the wearer. Every detail contributes to the story of the taonga, creating a meaningful piece that can be treasured for generations.
